  5.    Shareware (also known as user supported software and other names) is a
  6.    concept not understood by everyone.
  7.  
  8.    The authors of Shareware retain:
  9.  
  10.         - all rights to the software under the copyright laws
  11.         - while still allowing free distribution.
  12.  
  13.    This gives the user the chance to freely obtain and try out software to
  14.    see if it fits his needs.
  15.  
  16.    Shareware is NOT the same as Public Domain software even though they
  17.    are often obtained from the same sources.

  19.    You can obtain shareware software for free from:

  21.         - From BBS (Bulletin Board Systems)
  22.         - Anyone who has a copy

  25.    Payment:
  26.         If you continue to use Shareware after trying it out, you are
  27.         expected to register your use with the author and pay a registration
  28.         fee.

  30.    In a nutshell, shareware is  "try-before-you-buy"  software.

  32.    What you get in return depends on the author, but may include:
  33.         - future enhancements
  34.         - a printed manual
  35.         - free updates
  36.         - telephone support
  37.         - etc.

  39.    Only by paying for the Shareware you use do you enable the Shareware
  40.    author to continue to support his software and create new programs.

  42.    Considering that the Shareware registration fees are almost always far
  43.    less than the purchase price of comparable commercial software it's
  44.    obvious that Shareware is a great bargain for everyone.

  51.         - You test compatibility with your hardware.
  52.         - You ensure the software fits your needs before you buy.

  58.         - distribution and passes the savings on to you.

  63.         - most Shareware authors are much more accessible than commercial
